Bright red embroidered kata from Nepal featuring the Eight Auspicious Symbols.  In Buddhist legend, the 8 symbols represent offerings the gods made to the Buddha after his enlightenment.  Handmade of silk with a soft frayed edge.

A kata is traditionally given as a symbol of respect and gratitude.  It is often given with incense during ceremonial occasions such as births, weddings, funerals, graduations and the arrival or departure of guests.  Katas scarves symbolize purity and compassion.
